CT conference to highlight state jobs program

Connecticut state officials are inviting employers to attend a Wednesday conference in Ansonia about a state training and employment program, The Associated Press reports.

The program, known as Step Up, provides wage reimbursements and training grants to businesses and manufacturers with fewer than 100 employees. The conference is set for Wednesday at the Ansonia Armory.

The state says 237 unemployed jobseekers have been hired under the wage-subsidy program and 275 under the small manufacturer’s training grant.

Over six months, Step Up provides up to $12,500 for each new employee to help defray the cost of hiring or training. The new employee must be unemployed.
