Seventeen Connecticut companies, led by healthcare providers and insurers, have been named to Forbes magazine’s list of the best 500 large companies in the nation.
Yale New Haven Health topped all Connecticut companies ranking 57th overall.
Insurers Cigna and Aetna ranked No. 466 and No. 471, respectively.
Connecticut state government also made the list at No. 275, ironically just after General Electric (No. 223), which is moving its headquarters to Boston.
Hartford area employers that made the list include Otis in Farmington (No. 93); Henkel of Rocky Hill (No. 307); Eversource Energy (No. 407) and Travelers (No. 417), both in Hartford.
The list was chosen based on an independent survey of 30,000 U.S. employees working for companies employing at least 1,000 people. The survey was conducted between Sept. 9 and Oct. 7, 2016. Contacted anonymously through several online panels in order to ensure they openly shared their opinions, employee participation was voluntary.
Willingness to recommend one’s own employer was considered to be the most important aspect of the survey, Forbes said.
Other Connecticut employers that made the list include: Sikorsky in Stratford (No. 58); Yale University in New Haven (No. 113); Charter Communications (No. 119), Synchrony Financial (No. 299) and Pitney Bowes (No. 394) in Stamford; Praxair (No. 203) in Danbury; Boehringer Ingelheim (No. 469) in Ridgefield and XPO Logistics (No. 487) in Greenwich.
Costco Wholesale was ranked No. 1, followed by Google.
