Connecticut College has named Brown University Dean Katherine Bergeron its 11th president.
Bergeron has been chief academic officer for undergraduate education at Brown since 2006 and a professor of music since 2004, and was later named dean of the department. Previously, she taught music at the University of California, Berkeley.
Bergeron, an Old Lyme native, starts work Jan. 1 at the New London school. She will succeed Leo I. Higdon Jr., who plans to retire at the end of the year.
