CT cites Stamford Target for mispricing

State Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell Jr. said today that his agency is charging Target Stores Inc. with pricing violations in its Stamford store.

Farrell said state consumer agents uncovered the mispricing during compliance checks on 50 random items on shelves of the store at 21 Broad St. Even when the retailer was told of pricing errors on 14 items after the July inspection, 17 items were mispriced when agents returned in September, the commissioner said.

“Connecticut’s unit pricing laws are designed to uphold a fundamental marketplace principle — that consumers can make informed purchasing decisions based on cost, quality and convenience,” Farrell said. “We expect stores to stores to be fully compliant with the law —  particularly when for most shoppers, every penny counts.”

The agency has set an Oct. 27 hearing for Target to respond to the mispricing allegations.
