CT circus to rally against natural gas, waste-to-energy

The Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice will rally with a circus Thursday at the State Capitol against the inclusion of natural gas and waste-to-energy plants in Connecticut’s future energy plans.

The first part of the demonstration at 2 p.m. Thursday will be a mini-circus with an elephant representing climate change, mimes who break silence on environmental injustice, and clowns representing the state’s energy decisions.

The rally is meant to address the state’s comprehensive energy strategy, which will have its final draft released in February. The plan calls for switching 300,000 customers to natural gas home heating and keeping the state incinerators to burn trash for electricity.

After the circus, those in attendance will discuss their sustainable solutions.

Most of the state’s comprehensive energy strategy does not need legislative approval to move forward, including the natural gas and waste-to-energy provisions.
