CT Circuit City sites up for bid

A New York liquidator has been hired to manage the disposal of all Circuit City Stores Inc. leases and property, including 11 Connecticut locations for the bankrupt electronics-appliance retailer.

DJM Realty, of Melville, N.Y., is marketing 578 store leases in 46 states, and five store locations, a distribution center and seven  land parcels in a dozen states.

Circuit City, based in Richmond, Va., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in November and began liquidation proceedings in January. Bids on the leases and properties are expected to be filed with the bankruptcy court by March 15.

“Circuit City’s real estate has begun to create interest among national and regional retailers and supermarkets,” said Andy Graiser and Emilio Amendola, DJM Realty’s co-presidents.

Officials said Circuit City’s surplus properties also provide an opportunity for retailers and other businesses to break into such hard-to-enter markets as northern and southern California, New York, Chicago, Dallas and Houston.
