CT Children’s, Yale New Haven Children’s hospitals place in national rankings

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital among the nation’s best children’s hospitals in several specialties.

Connecticut Children’s ranked in four specialties: gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 49), nephrology (No. 50), cardiology and heart surgery (No. 42) and urology (No. 45). The latter two rankings are for joint programs shared with Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, which was nationally ranked in eight categories: neonatology (No. 29), cancer (No. 28), cardiology and heart surgery (No. 42), diabetes and endocrinology (No. 4), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 32), neurology and neurosurgery (No. 38), pulmonology (No. 39) and urology (No. 45).

U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available.

U.S. News recognized the top 50 pediatric facilities across the nation in 10 pediatric specialties, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

The rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists. The rankings methodology considers clinical outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, efficiency and coordination of care delivery and compliance with “best practices.”
