CT Children’s assumes operations at two former UConn Health offices

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center has announced the opening of two new primary-care pediatric offices formerly operated by UConn Health, one in East Hartford and another in West Hartford.

Physicians at the office are now employed by Connecticut Children’s Specialty Group, a subsidiary of the medical center, and other staff were allowed to apply for the open positions, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center said. Both offices, Connecticut Children’s Primary Care at East Hartford and Connecticut Children’s Primary Care at West Hartford, are now run by Connecticut Children’s Specialty Group.

There was no financial transaction involved, the medical center said, adding that UConn Health decided it was no longer going to provide pediatric services at those sites. Patients were given the option to transfer their care to Connecticut Children’s Specialty Group or a different provider of their choice, the medical center said.

“Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and UConn Health are dedicated to providing state of the art care to children across Connecticut,” Dr. James E. Shmerling, president and CEO of the medical center, said in a statement. “This is a wonderful opportunity to provide additional, high-quality services in convenient locations, making it easier for our patients and families to receive the care they need, and deserve.”
