Slot revenue at Connecticut’s two resort casinos continued their slide in April, although Mohegan Sun fared better than rival Foxwoods.
Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket had $44.5 million in slot revenue in April, a 10.2 percent decline from April 2012. The total amounted wagered on slots, the handle, dropped 11.9 percent to $528.9 million.
Mohegan Sun in the Uncasville section of Montville had $52.6 million in slot revenue in April, a 4.2 percent decline from April 2012. The handle dropped 4.6 percent to $627.5 million.
The last time either casino increased its slot revenue year-over-year was December 2011 when Foxwoods booked $50.2 million on its slots, compared to $45.1 million in December 2011.
Both casinos have repeatedly stated that slot revenues is only one metric of their financial health, which also includes table games, hotels, restaurants, concerts, and golf courses. Slots is the only metric both must disclose publicly.
As part of their agreements to operate in the state, Foxwoods and Mohegan must contribute 25 percent of their slots revenues to the state general fund. In April, Foxwoods contributed $11.2 million, and Mohegan contributed $13.2 million.
