CT casinos’ slot revenue short again

Connecticut’s two resort casinos finished the fiscal year with less revenue from slot machines than the year before, continuing a multi-year slide of decreased gaming revenues.

In the fiscal year that ended on June 30, slot revenue at Mohegan Sun in the Uncasville section of Montville finished at $719.2 million, a 4 percent decrease from the previous fiscal year.

At Foxwoods in Mashantucket, slot revenue for the fiscal year dropped to $650 million, a 0.03 percent decrease from the previous fiscal year.

This comes from the monthly filing the two casinos made for June to the state of Connecticut, part of their agreement to operate in the state and contribute 25 percent of their winnings to state coffers. The fiscal year is based on the Connecticut fiscal year, not on that of the casinos, which operate on a different fiscal calendar.

The decline in annual slot revenues continues a six-year slide for Foxwoods and a four-year slide for Mohegan Sun.

In its monthly report, Mohegan Sun said it generated $57 million from its slot machines in June, a 4.4 percent slide from June 2010. The Uncasville casino’s contribution to the state for this June was $15.1 million.

Foxwoods generated $51.01 million from its slot machines in June, a 0.06 percent decrease from June 2010. The Mashantucket casino’s contribution to the state last month was $13.8 million.
