CT casinos level off May slots revenue

After significant declines in April, the two Connecticut resort casinos somewhat leveled off their year-over-year losses in slot revenue for May, according to their reports Friday.

Mohegan Sun in Uncasville reported $55 million in May slots revenue, a decline of 0.8 percent from the $55.4 million in May 2012. In April, Mohegan’s slots revenue declined 4.2 percent year-over-year to $52.6 million.

Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket reported $48.2 million in May slots revenue, a 4.4 percent decline from the $50.4 million in May 2012. In April, Foxwoods’ slots revenue declined 10.2 year-over-year to $44.5 million.

The last time either casino increased its slot revenue year-over-year was December 2011 when Foxwoods booked $50.2 million on its slots, compared to $45.1 million in December 2011.

Both casinos have repeatedly stated that slot revenues is only one metric of their financial health, which also includes table games, hotels, restaurants, concerts, and golf courses. Slots is the only metric both must disclose publicly.

As part of their agreements to operate in the state, Foxwoods and Mohegan must contribute 25 percent of their slots revenues to the state general fund. In May, Foxwoods contributed $12.2 million, and Mohegan contributed $13.7 million.
