Connecticut is the 14th-most expensive state in the country for drivers, according to a new report from Bankrate.com
The average driver here pays $3,485 per year in gasoline, insurance, repairs, taxes and fees, Bankrate said. That’s above the national average of $3,201.
Connecticut falls in the middle of the six New England states. Massachusetts, Maine and Rhode Island are more expensive, while Vermont and New Hampshire are less expensive.
Georgia took the top spot at $4,233, while Oregon drivers pay an average of $2,204 — the lowest in the country.
Bankrate said Georgia’s sprawling landscape and lack of public transportation means farther commutes for people there, which leads to higher costs. The southern state also has the highest auto taxes and fees, the report said.
