Senate President Donald Williams says he’s optimistic the full Connecticut General Assembly will vote on a budget early next week, possibly Monday or Tuesday, The Associated Press reports.
Williams told The Associated Press on Thursday that “some finer details” have been worked out since Democratic leaders and their party’s governor announced last week they reached an agreement on a two-year, $40.2 billion budget. He did not elaborate.
Williams said he doesn’t see “any further obstacles to moving forward.”
There will be a $2 billion hole that’s supposed to be filled with savings on labor costs. Closed-door talks with state employee union leaders continued Thursday and could extend into the weekend. While Republicans have criticized Gov. Dannel P. Malloy for pushing through a budget without a deal with labor, Williams says it’s not a problem.
