Connecticut investigators have cleared ACORN of allegations of voter fraud brought by Republican registrars in Bridgeport and Stamford, The Associated Press reports.
The report nearly two years in the making says there is no evidence that ACORN “had an institutional or systematic role in designing and implementing a scheme or strategy to fraudulently register or enroll electors” before the November 2, 2008 election.
Connecticut was one of several states where the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now came under fire.
ACORN folded when the federal government withheld funds from the group.
The registrars complained that ACORN submitted hundreds of illegitimate voter registration applications.
The investigation found that ACORN made an effort to flag fraudulent applications, but sometimes failed.
