CT bites on Frito-Lay expansion

Connecticut is laying out $3 million toward snack chip maker Frito-Lay’s major upgrade of its Killingly operations, including its wastewater treatment equipment.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell said Wednesday the state is providing the Urban Act grant to help fund Frito-Lay North America’s $66 million expansion because the company has shown a deep commitment to Connecticut, Killingly and its more than workers there.

The project will add 100,000 square feet of production space and new machinery to produce potato chips and other snacks, and a larger wastewater facility.

Frito-Lay snacks produced at the Killingly plant are distributed to retail outlets in Connecticut and the Northeast, and exports products overseas for the U.S. military.
