Bethel’s Topolino Technology says it’s moving away from making lightweight, racing bicycle wheels to focus on producing its composite rims for wheelchairs.
To do that, Topolino is licensing its bike-rim technology to Easton Cycling, a Scotts Valley, Calif., maker of bicycle parts for unspecified terms, authorities say.
Topolino said it will focus on building its 2-year-old market designing and hand-producing lightweight wheelchair rims. However, Topolino President Rafe Schlanger vowed to continue to support its existing customer base with parts and service.
Topolino boasts that its composite spokes are both lighter and stiffer than traditional steel spokes to give a smoother ride, with more control.
