A Greenwich-based private equity firm focused on the healthcare industry has acquired a majority stake in a German company that makes temperature-controlled packaging for pharmaceutical clients.
Great Point Partners (GPP), which is headquartered at 165 Mason St., has not disclosed the majority position that it has taken in privately owned Eutecma, a Mannheim, Germany-based provider of a patented ICECATCH cooling system that recycles the packaging materials.
“Eutecma impressed us with their innovative technology and approach to sustainability that is making a significant impact for pharmaceutical clients,” said Eddie Hjerpe, GPP’s senior vice president. “Their temperature performance, CO2 reduction data, and differentiated engineering is exactly what the evolving cold-chain industry is looking for today.”
Eutecma, founded in 2008, has acquired Resolvision, Eutecma’s proprietary re-use machine technology used at its refreshment centers, as part of the partnership with GPP.
“We have successfully created innovative and sustainable cold chain solutions that have proven themselves with well-known pharmaceutical customers,” said Eutecma co-founder Florian Zeilfelder. “Our work with GPP will advance that mission so we can strategically expand our reach, especially in the US and other geographies around the world.”
Great Point Partners, which was founded in 2003, employs 32 workers, manages about $1.5 billion of capital in its private funds and public biotechnology equity strategy, called BioMedical Value Fund.
