CT-based IT research giant extends CEO’s contract, adds board chair role to duties

Stamford-based IT research giant Gartner Inc. has named its CEO to the additional role of chair of its board of directors.

On Monday morning, the company announced that its board of directors had elected CEO Eugene A. Hall to the position, effective immediately.

Also, Hall’s employment agreement with the company, set to expire Dec. 31, 2026, was extended through Dec. 31, 2031.

Hall succeeds James C. Smith, who served as board chair since 2004. Smith will remain on the board as an independent director.

In addition, the board appointed Karen E. Dykstra, a member of Gartner’s board since 2007, as lead independent director, also effective immediately.

Gartner, which generated $5.9 billion in revenue in 2023 and has a market cap of $26.5 million, is one of the largest companies in Connecticut. It is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
