Nearly 950 acres of Connecticut land will receive permanent protection against development, following an award of state money to purchase the properties in 17 communities, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office announced.
The money comes from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Program, which is funded by the Community Investment Act and state bond funds.
The state now has just over 500,000 acres of protected land, which a goal of 673,210 acres by 2023.
Some of the protected parcels include:
• Mansfield: 61 acres on Meadowbrook Lane;
• Burlington: 105 acres adjacent to Taine Mountain Preserve;
• Bloomfield: 23 aces on the east side of Tunxis Ave.;
• Rocky Hill: 21 acres on the west side of France Street;
• Southington: 17 acres on East Street
• Vernon: Two parcels totaling 51 acres on Hartford Turnpike and West Street.
