Airbnb, the online marketplace that allows people to rent their homes or apartments, said that Connecticut’s 2,400 active hosts earned more than $11 million in supplemental income in 2016, welcoming as many as 64,000 visitors to the Nutmeg State.
The typical host in Connecticut earned $5,500 last year. The typical Connecticut dwelling listed on the site is occupied 32 nights per year and the average length of stay is 3.4 nights, said Josh Meltzer, head of Northeast public policy for Airbnb.
Residents in the city of Hartford earned $459,742 from 3,708 guests, outpaced by New Haven, which earned nearly $1.9 million for more than 11,500 guests.

- Danbury, $544,056 for 2,522 guests;
- New London, $372,903 for 2,952 guests; and
- Stonington, $415,219 for 2,818 guests.
