CT AG vows AT&T-T-Mobile close scrutiny

Attorney General George Jepsen says his office will play an active role protecting Connecticut consumers’ interests in the pending $39 billion merger between AT&T Corp. and T-Mobile USA.

“A merger of this magnitude, especially in an already concentrated market, will naturally be scrutinized for competitive ramifications,” Jepsen said in a statement Wednesday.

The federal Justice Department and Federal Communications Commission must sanction the deal on antitrust grounds.

“We will be in communication with the federal government, and with any state undertaking a review, to ensure to our satisfaction that the matter is being appropriately investigated and the interests of Connecticut consumers are protected,” Jepsen said.
