CT AG investigates Costco land deal

Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen announced Friday afternoon his office will investigatethe proposed sale of land at New Britain’s Stanley Park to national retail chain Costco.

Costco wants to build a store in New Britain and needs a portion of the Stanley Park plan to do it. When the land was donated to the city, the donor — Alix Stanley — said the city could sell it as long as it wasn’t needed for public use.

Jepsen asked the New Britain counsel to supply his office with documents showing the land will not be needed for public purposes.

New Britain also needs a special revenue fund or trust to hold the proceeds of that sale. Jepsen asked for details about that account.
