CT AG ends Sleepy’s probe

Attorney General George Jepsen says he found no evidence Sleepy’s mattress chain sold recycled or bug-infested bedding and has closed his probe.

The investigation began in late 2009 after the attorney general’s office received several consumer complaints concerning the quality of mattresses sold in Connecticut, including allegations regarding mattress depression and bed bug infestations.

Jepsen said his investigators found that consumer complaints about mattress defects handled according to the manufacturer’s warranties. It also found no evidence of bed bug infestation of company warehouses or delivery trucks, which are regularly inspected and fumigated.

He said Sleepy’s also provided evidence that it has never resold used mattresses and that it has a system in place to ensure that all returned mattresses are not mixed with new ones.
