CT adds course to help released inmates prepare for workforce

The Connecticut departments of Labor (CTDOL) and Correction (DOC) have jointly created a new 10-hour construction safety and health training class for inmates near the end of their sentences and ready to look for work.

The federally-approved, five-week course is a new initiative that aims to increase the education and skills of those leaving prison so they become more marketable to prospective employers.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the program will help continue reducing the state’s historically low crime rate by providing those who are soon-to-be released with the tools needed to become employed members of society and prevent recidivism.

More than 100 people in DOC custody have already expressed interest in the course and are registered to begin the classes, which starts Wednesday at the DOC’s Cybulski Community Reintegration Center in Enfield.
