CT adds 1,200 jobs, unemployment at 9.0%

Connecticut added 1,200 jobs in October, but the unemployment rate ticked up a tenth of a percent to 9.0 percent, according to employment report released by the state Department of Labor on Monday.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy called the mixed results proof that the state economy is improving, as jobs are being created and more people are entering the workforce, which caused the unemployment rate to rise.

Despite the increase in jobs from September to October, the number of jobs in Connecticut decreased by 2,800 over the past year. Total employment sits at 1,624,900 jobs.

In the past 20 months, Connecticut has recovered 30,200 jobs of the 117,500 jobs that were lost from March 2008 to February 2010 during the economic recession. The state’s recovery high point came in February with 1,634,900 jobs.
