The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection is soliciting greenway nominations for communities to earn the official state designation for trails and paths.
State designated greenways are eligible for a variety of grants and are listed in the state plan of conservation and development. Connecticut has 68 designated greenways.
A greenway must be an open space that enhances the community and is supported by local government initiatives. They provide recreation, alternative transportation, and economic development.
The Connecticut Greenways Council will evaluate the nominations and make its selections in June. The deadline for submission of nominations in May 1.
