U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is giving out a new round of stimulus money that will allow trains to carry more freight from Ohio to the East Coast, reducing commercial truck traffic on highways.
LaHood on Wednesday announced $1.5 billion in stimulus grants for projects he says will have significant economic and environmental benefits.
CSX Corp. will get $98 million to expand tunnels and bridges, allowing trains to handle double-stacked cargo containers. The stimulus money will help complete the first corridor of the project, from northwest Ohio to Chambersburg, Pa., through West Virginia and Maryland. (AP)
