Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority’s waste-to-energy plant in Hartford had its highest levels of efficiency in July, seven months after a new operator took control.
The facility processed 100.02 tons of trash into fuel in July, now the most efficient month ever. CRRA takes trash from 68 cities and towns, separates and shreds it for fuel to generate electricity.
The efficiency levels came seven months after CRRA handed over operations of the facility to Washington state-based NAES Corp. from the Metropolitan District Commission, causing a dispute between the CRRA and MDC over the $17 million contract.
“This efficiency record proves what we’ve been saying for years—that with the proper investments in the plant, the right operating contractor and CRRA management, this facility can efficiently dispose of Connecticut’s waste in an environmentally sound and effective manner,” said Thomas Kirk, CRRA president, in a press release.
