ShopRite will open its newest Connecticut supermarket in Cromwell on Saturday. It will employ some 280 workers.
Managers from Wakefern Food Corp., ShopRite’s Keasbey, N.J., parent, and local officials will join for an 8 a.m. ribbon-cutting at the 67,000-square-foot store in a retail plaza at 45 Shunpike Road.
The Garafalo family and their Garafalo Markets will operate the store in space that was formerly a Kmart in the Cromwell Square Shopping Plaza, Wakefern officials said.
Next door, a Marshall’s off-price apparel mart also is preparing to open soon. Both stores occupy space that previously housed a Kmart and an Xpect Discounts grocery store.
There are 28 ShopRite markets in Connecticut, according to its homepage.
