Mission: Creative Living Community seeks to create a shared, inclusive living experience for individuals with and without developmental disabilities in a farmstead village, by focusing upon the gifts of all in mutually rewarding relationships
History: In 2006 a small group of parents and individuals began asking the question, “What will happen to my disabled adult child when I am no longer able to care for him/her in my home?” In 2008 Creative Living Community (CLC) was formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to provide community-integrated homes and employment for people with autism, mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.Â
In Connecticut people with these special needs face a multi-years-long waiting list for housing and have very limited job options. While no longer placed in institutions, people with developmental disabilities are under-valued as members of society and typically remain socially isolated
The CLC Farmstead Village is an innovative response to the needs of adults with developmental disabilities. To succeed, CLC will acquire a 100+ acre farm where homes can be built and jobs created for up to 80 people (approximately 20 with special needs). A viable business plan, rooted in our local food system, is being developed to create durable, productive and rewarding job opportunities.
Major Fundraisers: Fundraising events are held throughout the year, including our annual appeal that goes out this month, to contribute to our operating budget. Â
Each year our major fundraiser is “Day in the Park”, a family and community-oriented afternoon of fun held in mid September at the Coventry Community Center.
We look forward to initiating our first major Capital Campaign within the next year.
Volunteer Needs: We currently seek volunteers who are excited to join us in our efforts! As an emerging nonprofit we have many ideas and dreams but never enough time to work on them all. Do you share our vision? Would you like to contribute your skills and knowledge? Our foremost need is for someone with experience scaling-up a non-profit, from an all volunteer start-up to a staffed organization. Maybe you are experienced or passionate about raising money or perhaps you have the gift of designing/leading mixed-ability workshops? Let us know, we will work with you to determine how your contributution can make a difference. Inspired!? Contact Cindy Hall: 860.324.0902  or email creativelivingcommunityofct@gmail.com
