Crabtree & Evelyn sells Woodstock properties for $3.8M

Specialty retailer Crabtree & Evelyn has sold its corporate offices and manufacturing-distribution space in Woodstock for more than $3.8 million.

Eric and Jeffrey Lonstein, of Peake Brook LLC, acquired five properties on Peake Brook Road that formerly housed the retailer’s 42,612-square-foot corporate office building, 155,000-square-foot manufacturing-distribution facility and a guest house, according to the town’s assessor’s office. The deal was completed Dec. 23.

Broker Colliers International Group Inc., which represented the Lonsteins in the deal, said the office is being offered for lease. It was not immediately clear Wednesday how the Lonsteins plan to utilize its newly acquired manufacturing-distribution facility.

Crabtree & Evelyn, known for its soaps and other personal-care products, closed its Woodstock manufacturing and distribution facilities about a year ago as it shifted operations to a third-party supplier. The closure impacted more than 100 local workers.

The departure came nearly a decade after Crabtree & Evelyn filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S., citing a declining housing market and tightening of credit markets that contributed to consumers reducing their discretionary spending.

Crabtree & Evelyn in recent years closed its last remaining Connecticut store in Putnam.
