The Connecticut Society of CPAs recently announced its 2013 “New and Young Professionals to Watch,” a group of three up-and-comers under 35 who have set themselves apart as emerging leaders in the accounting profession. The list includes: Tracy McKaveney, senior manager at Mahoney Sabol & Company LLP in Glastonbury; Amber D. Tucker, audit manager at CohnReznick LLP in Glastonbury; and Michele Solomon, assurance senior manager at Marcum LLP in New Haven.
McKaveney spearheaded an initiative to foster professional development for women in her firm and is an active participant in the CTCPA “It’s Just LIFE” professional programming for women. Tucker serves as an internal staff trainer at her firm and is one of the New England Region WomenCan Liaisons, working to recruit, retain, and promote women. Solomon leads Marcum’s Connecticut Focus Group, which fields questions and concerns from local employees and implements measures to improve the Marcum environment and experience.
CT Treasurer’s office honored for Excellence in Financial Reporting
Connecticut State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier recently announced that her office was recently recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The state treasurer’s office was awarded the Treasury Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for two comprehensive annual financial reports for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2012. The certificates were awarded for the annual reports of the Short-Term Investment Fund, a $5 billion government investment pool for the state Treasury and agencies, and municipalities and the Combined Investment Funds, where the state’s $26 billion pension and trust funds are invested.
Legrand receives top marketing honor
Legrand, a West Hartford-based wire and cable management supplier, recently captured top honors as the overall “Best of the Best” supplier for its innovative marketing programs during the National Association of Electrical Distributors AdVenture Conference in Chicago. NAED judges also recognized Legrand for two of its individual marketing programs in the Best Integrated Promotional Campaign and Literature/Selling Tool categories.
St. Francis recognized for IBCLC Care Award
The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and International Lactation Consultant Association recently recognized St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center for excellence in lactation care. St. Francis received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition for staffing professionals who hold the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification and for providing a lactation program that is available a minimum of five days a week for breastfeeding families.
