A judge on Monday dismissed the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s lawsuit against state lawmakers and government officials that claimed the legislature subverted the legislative process when it passed a gun control bill in April.
The NSSF said the emergency certification process used to pass the law denied Connecticut citizens the opportunity to provide input on its provisions.
But U.S. District Court Judge Janet C. Hall dismissed the suit on Monday, saying the NSSF did not have legal standing to challenge the law.
The law bans the sale of various types of rifles, limits magazine sizes and requires assault weapon owners to register with the state by the end of this month.
Hall said the foundation’s more than 200 members — which include both gun retailers and owners — did not suffer a “concrete and particularized” invasion of “some legally protected interest” through the law’s passage.
The judge also said it didn’t make sense to say the law invaded commercial interests because legislation passed without perceived procedural defects would have resulted in identical perceived injuries.
