A Greenwich couple plan to convert a commercial building in Norwalk into a manufacturing facility for their growing chicken-coop business.
Tori and Ken Pond propose using a 4,000-square-foot, one-story building at 5 Van Tassell Court for light manufacturing and processing of handcrafted chicken coops, according to an application filed with the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission. The coops are intended for residential and small-scale agricultural use.
The application was filed by Van Tassell LLC, which is controlled by Stamford-based Grasso Construction, the property owner.
Tori Pond said the couple began making chicken coops in the driveway of their Greenwich home in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic slowed demand for their Tiny Homes on Wheels business, which they founded in 2016.
They moved production for their second venture, Craft & Sprout Coops, in 2023 to a 1,500-square-foot space in Norwalk’s Wall Street area. As demand grew, they began searching last year for a larger facility, she said.
“We’ve built over 400 from New Hampshire to South Carolina,” she said.
The couple hope to eventually purchase their own manufacturing space in Connecticut.
“I need the prices to come down in Connecticut here,” she said.
Grasso Construction purchased the property for $512,800 in August 2025, according to property records. The 1945-built structure sits on a 0.22-acre parcel and is appraised at $687,420 and assessed at $481,200.
