Celebrating what is set to be the state’s largest center for addiction and mental health care, Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center staff and dignitaries signed their names to a steel beam at the Recovery & Wellness Center in New Haven’s Hill neighborhood on Wednesday.
The new $24.5 million center, taking shape at 149 Minor St., will be a three-story, 31,000-square-foot building housing individual and group counseling rooms, a medical suite, a 12-bed female dormitory and 40-bed male dormitory with semi-private rooms.

The new structure, designed by Svigals + Partners and built by Newfield Construction, will also house an industrial kitchen and cafeteria and additional therapy space.
After renovations are complete at the neighboring South Central Rehabilitation Center, Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center expects to be operating the state’s largest mental health and addiction treatment campus.
Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center CEO Michael R. Taylor said of the new center, “Today, we are one step closer to it becoming a reality and a model for care in our community.”
The Recovery & Wellness Center is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
The new center is partly funded by the state, which has put $10 million into the project. Additional donations are being sought for patient services through the new Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center Foundation, established last year.
