Cordani officially becomes Cigna CEO

New leadership officially took control today at health insurer Cigna Corp., which has major operations in Bloomfield, as David Cordani replaces H. Edward Hanway as CEO.

Cordani, 43, has been with Philadelphia-based Cigna for 18 years and became president and chief operating officer in June 2008.

Isaiah Harris Jr., 57, is now Cigna’s chairman of the board of directors. He has been on the board since 2005.

The company said in June that Hanway would retire at the end of 2009. He had been chairman and CEO since 2000, but the company plans to keep those roles separate from now on.
