Oxford’s former tax collector who pleaded guilty this summer to stealing town funds has agreed to give up her $21,772 annual municipal pension, authorities say.
Karen Guillet signed a stipulation for judgment with state Attorney General George Jepsen’s office ceding her pension, officials said Wednesday.
The state pursued forfeiture of Guillet’s pension under an anti-corruption statute enacted following Connecticut’s highly publicized bout of corruption involving public officials during the ill-fated tenure of Gov. John Rowland.
Jepsen said Guillet also agreed the $19,198.56 she paid into her pension fund will be applied to the more than $570,000 the town is in the hole for because of her embezzlement for shopping sprees, a dog walking and spa visits, among other things, officials said.
Guillet pleaded guilty in July to stealing more than $670,000 while she was tax collector. Insurance reimbursed the town for $100,000 of the loss, and the town is suing Guillet for the rest.
She is due back in court Oct. 29 for sentencing.
