A Stamford-based home improvement contractor faces up to three years in prison for underreporting his income to the Internal Revenue Service.
Pavel Teply, 45, of Stamford, pleaded guilty last week to one count of aiding and assisting the filing of a false tax return.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, by underreporting his income, Teply caused the IRS to lose $175,812 in tax revenue.
U.S. District Court Judge Stefan R. Underhill is scheduled to sentence Teply on May 6.
Teply is the owner, operator and principal of Five Star Remodeling and Roofing, based at 1 Barry Place in Stamford. Â
The business, incorporated in 2007, provides home improvement services such as roofing, siding, general repair and maintenance, and historic renovation, according to its website.
According to federal prosecutors, for the 2013 through the 2015 tax years, Teply used a tax return preparer for his personal income tax returns. When doing so, he provided inaccurate information which underreported his income, the gross receipts of his business, and business-related expenses, resulting in the tax loss to the government.
