U.S. consumer spending rose in March, largely because of higher prices for food, gas and other purchases, the Commerce Department said.
Consumer spending rose 0.4 percent for the month. Without inflation, though, that number was only 0.1 percent. The department also said that personal income was up 0.3 percent for the month, which translates to no change after accounting for inflation.
