As the economy heads into the holiday shopping season, the Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index fell to its lowest point since April, the Conference Board said today.
The overall index stands at 70.4. That’s down from October, which saw a steep month-to-month decline from 77.5 to 72.4.
Consumers surveyed said the job market was stronger in November, but that economic conditions had slowed. Looking at the next six months, consumers had greater concern about their job and earning prospects.
“All in all, with such uncertainly prevailing, this could be a challenging holiday season for retailers,” Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at the Conference Board, said in a statement.
