The Capital Region Education Council said crews will break ground Oct. 3 on its interdistrict magnet schools in Windsor and Wethersfield.
The CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering is located at 1101 Kennedy Road in Windsor and will accommodate 735 students in grades six through 12.
The CREC Discovery Academy, which bills itself as a state-of-the-art STEM elementary school, is at 176 Cumberland Ave. in Wethersfield. It will serve 480 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
The schools have been housed in temporary facilities. The new facilities are slated for completion in 2015.
CREC opened five magnet schools last year — Public Safety Academy in Enfield, East Hartford Elementary Magnet School, the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Elementary Magnet School in Bloomfield, the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School and the Two Rivers Magnet High School.
The latter two schools are located inside the old Colt Armory.
