Work has begun on a 28-unit townhouse development on a former parking lot site in New Britain.
The Berkowitz II, located at 608 Main St. in the city’s Little Poland neighborhood, is being developed by Chrysalis Center Housing Development Corp. with support from the state Department of Housing.
State and local officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony held April 25.
The townhouses will feature two bedrooms and cater to families across income brackets.
The new development is the second iteration of The Berkowitz, a similar development with 24 affordable apartments on an adjacent property, also developed by Chrysalis Center.
The Berkowitz was completed in December 2022 and features a mix of one- and two-bedroom units.
The Chrysalis Center completed its first housing development 12 years ago. Most recently, the nonprofit organization built the Clover Gardens development in Hartford.
