Connecticut weighs in fairly well in fattest states ranking

Connecticut fared well in a WalletHub analysis of residents’ propensity to be overweight or obese.

WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 12 key metrics to pinpoint where the weight problem is most prevalent and encouraged Americans to re-evaluate their lifestyles. The data set ranges from the percentage of adults and children who are overweight and obese to the sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents.

In rankings where first is worst, indicating the biggest weight problems, Connecticut ranked No. 45 overall. Mississippi was No. 1, Hawaii No. 51.

Connecticut’s ranking in obesity and overweight prevalence was 37th. Its ranking for unhealthy habits and consequences was No. 51.

Other data for Connecticut, according to WalletHub: 43rd for percentage of adults who are obese; 35th for percentage of children who are overweight; 23rd for percentage of children who are obese; 31st for percentage of residents who are physically inactive; 39th for percentage of residents with high cholesterol; 42nd for percentage ofadults eating less than one serving of fruits/vegetables per day; 35th for percentage of residents with diabetes; 36th for percentage of residents with hypertension; and 47th for death rate due to obesity.
