Connecticut Forum’s executive director leaves to pursue new ventures

The Connecticut Forum is searching for a new executive director as it prepares for the launch of its next season, which will feature Liz Cheney, Ken Burns and others as panelists.

Executive Director Ruth Cullen has left the arts and cultural nonprofit organization to pursue new ventures, the group announced.

The board of directors will appoint an interim executive director and conduct a national search for a permanent replacement, according to the announcement.

It has engaged a Boston-based consulting firm, Third Sector New England, to help with the search process.

Cullen joined The Connecticut Forum in 2007 and worked her way up to executive director after serving as director of advancement and communications. She was named executive director in July 2021.

“We were fortunate to have someone internally with Ruth’s passion for The Forum step into the executive director role during what was an unprecedented and critical time for nonprofit arts organizations,” said Steven Blau, chair of the board of directors. “Ruth’s work leaves us strongly positioned for the future and we wish her continued success.”

Cullen previously had a career in publishing, the announcement says.

The Connecticut Forum holds live, unscripted panel discussions featuring renowned experts and celebrities at The Bushnell theater four times a year. The 2023-24 season will kick off with “A Conversation with Ken Burns” on Nov. 18, moderated by journalist Audie Cornish. Burns is known for his documentary films chronicling American history and culture.
