Mission: Connecticut Concert Opera offers both opera lovers and novices the opportunity to hear complete major operas in an accessible concert format.
The company seeks to bring high quality, professional, operatic performances to the community at affordable prices, to heighten general knowledge about opera, and to nurture new performing talent.
Background: Founded in 1991, Connecticut Concert Opera serves anyone in the community interested in opera and classical music. It primarily offers concert operas at reasonable prices, so more people and students can enjoy.
The organization supports young talent; professional singers are from Connecticut or neighboring states.
The well-known artistic director, Doris Lang Kosloff, is also a professor at the Hartt School. It also offers overnight opera trips to well-known opera venues on the East Coast. Connecticut Concert Opera is funded by individual responses to annual appeal, percentage of fees for overnight trips, and ticket sales.
Major fundraiser: Annual appeal currently in place; production of “Lakme” on Oct. 17, 2009.
