ConnectiCare President Moran departs; Wachtelhausen named interim leader

A year after going through a leadership shake up, Farmington health insurer ConnectiCare is facing another transition.

Karen Moran, who was named ConnectiCare’s president last December, has left the company. Her LinkedIn page lists a new job as senior vice president and president of Humana Military, a subsidiary of Kentucky insurance giant Humana Inc. that partners with the Department of Defense to administer the TRICARE health program for military members, retirees and their families.

In a LinkedIn post last week announcing her new role, Moran wrote: “I look forward to serving one of the most important groups in the country: our Armed Forces, its veterans and their families.”

ConnectiCare on Friday confirmed Moran’s recent voluntary departure. Longtime ConnectiCare senior executive Roberta Wachtelhausen has been named interim president while the company searches for a permanent replacement, an official said.

Moran took over ConnectiCare a year ago, after parent company EmblemHealth of New York announced it was parting ways with three top executives, including former President Eric Galvin.

ConnectiCare informed brokers and others this week that it was exiting Connecticut’s fully insured small group market.
