Nationwide, the cost of long term care in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and in the home increased for the fifth year in a row, according to the annual Cost of Care Survey from Genworth Financial.
Across the country, that amounted to a cost increase of 17 percent. Although Connecticut’s cost increase was only 15 percent, those costs surpassed the national average in every area of long-term care. The nationwide average cost for one year in a private nursing home costs $76,460. In Connecticut, the cost is $119,678.
For assisted living facilities, a private one-bedroom unit in the U.S. has an average cost of $36,090, while the average cost in Connecticut is $42,126.
For non-Medicare certified, state-licensed home health aide, the nationwide average is $19.18 an hour. The cost in Connecticut is $22.36 an hour, which translates to $51,160 a year for 44 hours per week of care.
And the average annual cost for five days a week in an adult day health care facility is $15,236 nationwide, while the cost in Connecticut is $18.476.
Genworth Financial has conducted its annual Cost of Care Survey of more than 10,000 nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home care providers in all 50 states and 90 geographic regions, including the District of Columbia. Â
