Conn. lawmakers override 6 Rell vetoes

Connecticut lawmakers have overridden six of Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s vetoes, including a bill to allow off-track betting at three restaurants, The Associated Press reports.

The General Assembly overturned the vetoes during a special session at the state Capitol Monday. Legislators also passed two bills that included several proposals that did not pass during the regular session, such as extending a higher tax on real estate transactions for another year.

Rell, who is not seeking re-election and is leaving office in January, vetoed a total of 13 bills. Lawmakers were considering overturning seven of the bills, but wound up taking up six. They overrode all six.

Rell’s veto of the OTB bill, which allowed simulcasting at restaurants in New London, Willimantic and Manchester, has attracted the most attention.
