The majority Democrats in the Connecticut General Assembly have chosen some familiar faces to lead them in the new legislative session, The Associated Press reports.

During closed-door caucus meetings on Thursday evening, Democrats in the House of Representatives unanimously chose Rep. Christopher Donovan of Meriden as speaker of the House for a second term. The full House will formally vote on Donovan’s nomination in January, when the session begins.

Democrats chose Rep. Brendan Sharkey of Hamden as their majority leader. He succeeds Rep. Denise Merrill, who was elected secretary of the state.

Senate Democrats unanimously tapped Sen. Donald E. Williams Jr. of Brooklyn as the Senate president. The full Senate will formally vote in January.

Democrats unanimously re-elected Sen. Martin Looney of New Haven as majority leader.
