The oldest building on Connecticut College’s campus in New London is about to undergo a major renovation, The Associated Press reports.
Officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for the renovation and expansion at New London Hall, which will be transformed into the college’s new science center.
The $21 million project is expected to be completed in fall 2012. The expanded building will include more than 21,000 square feet for research and teaching in offices, labs and classrooms.
The project is being funded with donations from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation and alumni contributing to the Campaign for Connecticut College fundraising initiative.
Connecticut College was founded on April 5, 1911 and currently has about 1,900 students. It recently marked its 100th anniversary by kicking off a year of events on its New London campus.
